About The Farmer

Mr. Johny Vattathara’s family farm is situated at a beachside village located in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India.

Johnny and the family have been growing nutmeg, mace, betel nuts, and pepper on this plot of land with some of the first trees being planted by his father and grandfather about 75 years ago.

At a young age, Johnny decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and soon after graduating from university got himself involved at the family farm, this was almost 4 decades ago.

Now, a part of the Nutmeg Association of Kerala along with 200 other farmers, Johnny focuses on organic ways of farming.

His 4-acre land comes complete with different snake species, including King Cobra and Russel’s Viper.

Johnny’s wife is actively involved at the farm as well and helps him with the daily activities along with the post-harvest processing of the crops.

This includes sun-drying, cleaning, and grading the produce with the help of other women in the community.

Farm Inputs
