About The Farmer
Mrs. Rajini Jaydev is an electrical engineer by profession who worked at Keltron, a state-government-owned enterprise for over 2 decades. Her family spent a good part of their professional career in the middle east. Once retired, the family decided to return back to their homeland and this is when Mrs. Jaydev decided to take up farming. Her 2 daughters and husband are actively involved at the farm as well.
The family farm is close to 5 acres in size where they practice inter-cropping, growing coconut, ginger, turmeric, various vegetables, flowers, herbs, and tubers.
The farm comes complete with a polyhouse, a vermicompost unit, a rain shelter, and a hydroponics unit.
Mrs. Jaydev also has 2 cows, and 30 poultry birds including chickens and ducks.
The Jaydev family is a big believer in organic ways of farming – no chemical fertilisers or pesticides have been used on the farm.
She also regularly holds workshops to impart her knowledge to other farmers in the area, encouraging them to take up organic farming.
Vermicompost is used as a fertiliser and biopesticides such as Neem, Verticillium, Pseudomonas, and Beauveria bassiana are used at the farm.
