About The Farmer
Mr. CY Cheriyan and his son, Ashwin work on a 40-acre plantation growing bananas, oranges, avocados, jackfruits, coconuts, coffee, areca nuts, peppercorns, and cardamom.
Peppercorns and coffee are their main focus while other crops are grown to create a bio-diverse environment on their land. The peppercorn vines climb using other crops as a support and also get a nice and shady environment to thrive.
All these contribute towards a natural forest-like environment encouraging frequent wild animal visits to their farmland including several species of birds choosing to live at their farm.
A great believer in natural farming, the Cheriyan family uses no pesticides or chemical fertilisers to grow their crops.
Ashwin is a second-generation farmer, the land they cultivate was originally acquired by his father over 30 years ago. After completing his master’s degree, Ashwin joined his family farm, taking the business forward by focusing on international markets.
He has also successfully launched his brand of coffee, supplying within the Indian market.
The Cheriyans also own and operate a pepper garbling facility, allowing them to maintain tight quality control throughout the post-harvest processing.
Farm Inputs
Cow manure is the only fertiliser used on their farm. No pesticides are utilised during cultivation.
